In the UK premiere of Re:INCARNATION, ten young dancers and two musicians perform the cycle of life with explosive energy, marked by the urban energy and chaos of the Nigerian city of Lagos.
This dance, music, fashion and visual art fusion performance mixes ancient Yoruba philosophy with the rhythm and spirit of the country’s hyper-vibrant youth culture.
The show draws on Afrobeats, an explosive cocktail of jazz, soul, funk, and traditional African music, to provide a soundtrack for the high-energy choreography, which represents a reincarnation of the personal journeys of each of the dancers.
As described by the Montreal Rampage, this performance is ‘a tremendous piece... QDance Company’s 10 dancers and two musicians command the stage with Broadway-like showmanship.’
The QDance Company, led by artistic director Qudus Onikeku, is a Lagos-based contemporary dance company with an international outlook, working with dancers from throughout Nigeria.
